PRESENTATIONS & HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES

FOR MUSEUMS, SCHOOLS, ORGANIZATIONS, CLUBS AND SMALL GROUPS

THREE OPTIONS

1) PRESENTATION TO A GROUP — The focus may be a general introduction to the history and current practice of Chado, the Way of Tea, the Japanese tea ritual, or specific aspects such as hospitality, wabi sabi aesthetics, or architecture and gardens. The length of time can range from twenty to fifty minutes depending on the options described below. Photo Gallery below. Contact Linda Mosley

  • The introduction (either a five to ten minute talk or twenty to forty minute slide presentation) is followed by a fifteen minute narrated demonstration of an authentic tea ceremony, with one or two people from the audience as guests.

  • Optional

    • Linda’s trained student assistants, dressed in kimono, will serve a bowl of Japanese matcha tea and a confection to up to fifteen members of the audience.

    • A handout can be provided on a particular aspect of Chado for a discussion period and further study.

  • Location: Linda and her assistants will bring special tea equipment to your location.

  • Fee: varies based on the options chosen, location and the number of guests who will be served tea.

2) ATTEND A TEA CEREMONY — A Taste of Tea / One-time Introductory Lesson is offered mainly for those who are curious about the practice of Chado, the Way of Tea, but are not ready to commit to long-term study. After a brief introduction to Chado and the guest role, you will be served a bowl of matcha and a Japanese confection in an authentic tea ceremony, presented in the ryurei style, seated on chairs.   • Location: either at Linda’s home tea room in central Austin (for groups of up to six people), or at your location with Linda’s portable tea equipment.

  • Fee: varies based on location and number of guests.

  • To schedule: There are regularly available times at Linda’s home tea room; other dates may be available upon request. Please schedule two to four weeks in advance. Contact Linda Mosley

3) WHISKING MATCHA HANDS-ON LESSON for ages 10-100 — is offered mainly for those who are curious about the practice but not ready to commit to long-term study. After a brief introduction to Chado, the Way of Tea, and the host and guest’s roles, participants take turns making a bowl matcha tea for each other with the traditional chasen (bamboo whisk).

  • Location: at Linda’s home tea room for up to six participants, or at your location.
